The thing is, I remember reading years and years ago that Helvetica wasn&#8217;t the original spec for the (mostly) <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Massimo_Vignelli\" >Vignelli<\/a> redesign in the late 60s, but I never got around to digging out any of the details to remind myself what the story was. Thankfully,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.myfonts.com\/person\/shaw\/paul\/\" > Paul Shaw<\/a> has written up a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aiga.org\/content.cfm\/the-mostly-true-story-of-helvetica-and-the-new-york-city-subway?pp=1\"  title=\"The (Mostly) True Story of Helvetica and the New York City Subway\">fascinating and thorough article<\/a> about the history of the subway signage and its evolution over the years, so I can now brush up on the details or refer others to a better source.
