Since this is easier than figuring out what to write, and slightly meatier than just trotting out funny search terms, I&#8217;ll comply with my instructions.<\/p>\n<p><i>You&#8217;re stuck inside <\/i>Fahrenheit 451<i>, which book do you want to be?<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Well, I\u2019ve already got <a href=\"http:\/\/dreamlandnews.com\/\" >John Waters<\/a>&#8216; <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/tg\/detail\/-\/0394755340\/ref=pd_sim_b_2\/103-8039760-0418231?%5Fencoding=UTF8&#038;v=glance\" >Crackpot<\/a><\/i> half-memorized from years of reading it again and again, and since that would surely be one of the first books to go in a major purge, I\u2019d have to choose that one.<\/p>\n<p><i>Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Constantly. At one time or another there&#8217;s been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0393310329\" >Alec Scudder<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0553380958\" tyarget=\"_blank\">Hiro Protagonist<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/tg\/detail\/-\/0312282990\" >Joe Kavalier<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/014038572X\" >Ponyboy Curtis<\/a>, <i>et al.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The last book you bought is:<\/i><\/p>\n<p>If I don&#8217;t count trade paperback collections of comic books, it would be <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.typebooks.org\/r-elements.htm\" >The Elements of Typographic Style<\/a><\/i> by Robert Bringhurst, a classic of the genre I should have picked up a long time ago. (My last comics trade was volume 4 of John Byrne&#8217;s work on the <i>Fantastic Four<\/i>.)<\/p>\n<p><i>The last book you read is:<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/tg\/detail\/-\/1888001763\/qid=1113061417\/sr=1-13\/ref=sr_1_13\/103-8039760-0418231?v=glance&#038;s=books\" >Something to Be Desired<\/a><\/i> by Veronique Vienne, a fantastic collection of essays about graphic design, culture, and stuff.<\/p>\n<p><i>What are you currently reading?<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Monthly doses of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.metropolismag.com\" >Metropolis<\/a>,<\/i> <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\" >Wired<\/a>,<\/i> and an unruly list of comic books. I\u2019m between books, although I just grabbed <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0553213237\" >Room With a View<\/a><\/i> from the bookshelf while going to double-check Scudder&#8217;s name in <i>Maurice<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><i>Five books you would take to a deserted island:<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>The Bible. Seriously, I\u2019ve been meaning for a long time to read it straight through, and a desert island would be the safest place for me to do that without strangling someone who can&#8217;t admit that it&#8217;s very infuential, very didactic, and frequently altered historical fiction.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0375757325\" >Robinson Crusoe<\/a>,<\/i> because the irony would be delicious.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0374528993\" >Low Life<\/a><\/i> by Luc Sante, a personal favorite that would also let me indulge in homesickness.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/tg\/detail\/-\/0517053616\/qid=1113062731\/sr=1-1\/ref=sr_1_1\/103-8039760-0418231?v=glance&#038;s=books\" >William Shakespeare: The Complete Works<\/a>,<\/i> because in the real world it&#8217;s really hard to concentrate on this stuff enough to enjoy it as much as I\u2019m prone to.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>A blank sketchbook.
