Everyone knows you people stick to the Rambles for that.\u201d \u2014 Mayor Mitchell Hundred, greeting the two guys whose wedding he\u2019s agreed to perform.\n<p>I love this comic more than anything. The artwork by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocities.com\/Hollywood\/6703\/tony1996.html\">Tony Harris<\/a> is tremendous, but it\u2019s really <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dccomics.com\/features\/vertigox\/vaughan.html\">Brian K. Vaughan<\/a>\u2019s character interactions that make this series so delicious. I\u2019m actually annoyed whenever the story turns away from the political and personal story and fills in details of the more comic-booky story happening in the background.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.canarynoir.com\/\"><i>Birds of Prey<\/i> #79<\/a>: \u201cI went to Catholic school, Canary. One thing you learn, right away&#8230;<i>never<\/i> screw with the <i>crazy<\/i> girl.\u201d \u2014 The Huntress, explaining why she\u2019s trying to talk to Rose\/Thorn before she gets into a fight with her.\n<p>I avoided this book for so long because it seemed like such a goofy idea, and because the loosely-related <a href=\"http:\/\/imdb.com\/title\/tt0312098\/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnxteD0yMHxzZz0xfGxtPTUwMHx0dD1vbnxmYj11fHBuPTB8cT1iaXJkcyBvZiBwcmV5fGh0bWw9MXxubT1vbg__;fc=1;ft=20;fm=1\">TV show<\/a> looked so cheesy. I\u2019m so glad I finally discovered the best-<a href=\"http:\/\/www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com\/busted\/110236274131166.htm\">written<\/a> female characters in the entire DC universe. I jus the artwork wasn&#8217;t always so absurdly cheesecakey.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dccomics.com\/comics\/?cm=2661\"><i>Teen Titans<\/i> #21<\/a>: \u201cHey, listen, if I get&#8230;hurt&#8230;just let me take care of myself, all right?\u201d \u2014 Speedy, joining the Titans in a fight against Dr. Light before she was able to tell them that she\u2019s HIV+. I <i>totally<\/i> sympathized with her concern.\n<p>I\u2019d already heard about how the new Speedy was going to be dealing with HIV, and I\u2019ve been hoping that the writers handle it gracefully. I don&#8217;t know if it\u2019s working in <i>Green Arrow,<\/i> but the first hints of that twist in this book seem OK so far.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lunabrothers.com\"><i>Ultra<\/i> #7<\/a>: \u201cBeaver Girl, I love your lips!\u201d \u2014 unseen fan to unseen heroine on the red carpet to the Annual Super Hero Awards. Heh, beaver. Get it?\n<p>Actually, there\u2019s endless good dialogue in this whole series, both the funny kind and the natural kind.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marvel.com\/catalog\/showcomic.htm?id=1648&amp;format=comic\"><i>She-Hulk<\/i> #12<\/a>: \u201cGuys, there\u2019s a big superhuman battle nearby. Why haven\u2019t you taken off?\u201d \u201cPlease! Nobody gets hurt in those things.\u201d \u201cExcept maybe a <i>beloved<\/i> character. For added sales&#8230;and the rubber-necking factor\u201d \u2014 Jen Walters (She-Hulk) and some guys in a comic store. On the very next page, may favorite supporting character in the book, <a href=\"http:\/\/free.hostultra.com\/~jarvis\/avnow.html\">Awesome Andy<\/a>, gets his head ripped off.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.popcultureshock.com\/reviews.php?id=3891\"><i>Astonishing X-Men<\/i> #8<\/a>: \u201cI know you wanted to cement your standing in the group, but if that geek was sharing my bed&#8230;I think I\u2019d try not to wake up.\u201d \u2014 unseen entity addressing a comatose Emma Frost, as <a href=\"https:\/\/ultrasparky.org\/blog\/2005\/01\/11\/drama_is_my_mut\/\">the geek<\/a> looks on.\n<p>Like <i>Ex Machina<\/i> this book has sucked me in with great characters and who interact brilliantly. The action has mostly been used to propel the characters from one point in the story to the next, which is usually fine. That\u2019s pretty much all this issue is, though, so even though this issue set up a lot of interesting story developments, it felt a bit like filler. Tsk, tsk, Joss \u2014 that\u2019s just what ruined so many of Buffy&#8217;s last episodes.
