{"id":1039,"date":"2003-08-21T22:47:31","date_gmt":"2003-08-21T22:47:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ultrasparky.org\/blog\/?p=1039"},"modified":"2024-12-03T20:10:55","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T04:10:55","slug":"my_15_seconds_o","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ultrasparky.org\/blog\/2003\/08\/21\/my_15_seconds_o\/","title":{"rendered":"My 15 Seconds of Exposure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Now that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tivo.com\"  title=\"I\u2019m getting hooked already\">Tivo<\/a> is up and running,<\/strong> I\u2019m able to catch all those back episodes of <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.triotv.com\/sessions\/index.html\" >Sessions at West 54th Street<\/a><\/i> that I attended, but never got to see when they were broadcast. Right now I\u2019m watching the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cesaria-evora.com\/\" >Cesaria Evora<\/a> episode, in which I can periodically see the back of my head bobbing around. (I was always amazed how <i>still<\/i> people were during the tapings. If you ever see the second <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidbyrne.com\"  title=\"My hero\">David Byrne<\/a> episode, you can clearly see Mark and I bobbing and smiling uncontrollably throughout the whole performance. It&#8217;s music, ya know?)<\/p>\n<p>I was completely charmed by Cesaria Evora, and couldn&#8217;t help noticing how <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliemerchant.com\/\"  title=\"Boooooring\">Natalie Merchant<\/a>, seated a few feet away from me, never mustered up too much enthusiasm, even during the standing ovation at the end. (Well, not that a standing ovation is anything other than obligatory these days, but that\u2019s a rant for another time&#8230;) I remember thinking that <i>someone<\/i> could have been a little less jaded and taken a few pointers on performance techniques.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now that the Tivo is up and running, I\u2019m able to catch all those back episodes of Sessions at West 54th Street that I attended, but never got to see when they were broadcast.
