The 20th Century Was So Colorful!

The Early Swanktuary

I was sorting some old files and found this picture from the early glory days of the Swanktuary, as my old apartment in Brooklyn came to be known. It's actually kind of difficult to look at (and no, I’m not talking about the colorful palette — I like that part): life would get so complicated for the next few years, and I totally failed to handle the complications gracefully or effectively. I was almost a fully functioning member of society back then. But before illness, depression, bungled friendships, and damaged relationships there was this big room where I could finally show off all my cool stuff and have lots of friends over for parties and enjoy the fin de siècle in style.

4) ricardo: i'd not read your blog for awhile....well, hope you're doing better....in the realm of the collective LIE posing as art, posing as life, posing as health, posing as music, posing as renaissance, posing posing posing....i've seen homeless people or physically challenged individuals solve or voice concern or remedy a situation beyond a calling that stands outside of a computer monitor....presumably beyond a cheap calling of "on the road"....hope you're feeling better -- i've seen people stuck behind a computer screen -- bills paid, roof over their head, dinner parties all the time, passing through cinema, opera, cruises (k-hole inertia), family reunions and they still fabricate news pieces and the cgi rubbish. perhaps, gay people will step up to the plate again and produce something really brilliant -- beyond khaki -- and not a festering Castro musical bubble. oh hi!! people have their bills covered....and it's amazing how cheap and myopic their vision unfolds. if myopia could even allow that. 5) ralph: That neighborhood has exploded since you left. A Life Cafe, a hipster bar (the Wreck Room), a coffeehouse, art gallery (Ad Hoc) and natural food store. (Mar 16, 2007 9:45 PM)
