Circular Fallacy

Two more excellent points from the big gay ruling, both addressing the notion that gay marriage is an abomination of nature because same sex couples can't procreate with one another:

1) jaqui: i remember my freshman year of college. i got into this huge argument with this girl in class over gay marriage. i see no problem. two people in love that want to spend the rest of their lives together should be able to marry, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. she kept saying, "it's not natural." you know, no real reasoning or persuasive evidence to prove her point. if all citizens of the US are granted equal rights, then gay marriage should be legal, no? but of course, this all comes down to america's puritain roots & the influence religion has on our 'secular' government. 2) Lubin Odana: My argument about the whole procreation=marriage thing is "why is it necessary for everyone to procreate anyway?" If anything the planet is over-populated now and so we should be welcoming relationships between people who aren't going to have babies and present a further drain on natural resources. If course, many religions urge people to have as many children as possible (hence rulings against contraception) because they want to repopulate the world with their own kind. Talk about proselytism! 3) sean: The problem is that marriage itself is an abomination of nature...the road to hell is paved with pre-nups. (Nov 20, 2003 7:37 PM)
